I always thought Fox's resilience was the reason adversity seem to cling to him. No matter what, he would hold on by sheer will to continue fighting his demons. This is a darker view, but no less possible from what we know about him.

Everyone found it hard to comfort him, they always seem to come off as patronizing, humoring. Then he would have to laugh them off and continue to fight his enemies in the dark.

I like the way this fic ends. Kindness can be as relentless as violence.
