She’s 42.
I wouldn’t think that a Federal Agency would hire someone straight out of college, but even if they did I think it would take her more than 4 years to get the degrees she’d need. I think it’s probably 6 to 8 years of college.
In theory, Abby could be in her mid-30’s, I suppose. The thing is, for me, is when I was in my early 20’s (and a total Mod), I had a lot of Goth friends. Not a single one of them dressed in full on Goth by the time they reached their late 20’s. Not one. They were still dressed in a Goth kind of style (lots of black, still somewhat alternative), but in a more adult way. No more dog collars, plastic clothes, chunky boots, etc. even when we went out to club. Their styles all evolved into a kind of Goth chic and all of them were different; reflections of who they were and where they were at in their life.
Gibbs and Ducky are pretty much set in their ways, but if you look at Tony and Tim, their clothing styles have changed over the last decade. Tony’s style changed massively, but is still very Tony. Maybe it bugs me because she’s a woman and NCIS hasn’t really done their female characters proud. It might be because Abby is a role model for a lot of girls/young women and it would be so nice if she were able to mature a little – stylistically, emotionally, professionally.
I have the scene from “Two Masters” in my head where Abby admits to Tony after the accident that it’s time to explore other sides of Abby. I so would love for Abby to have that moment – something huge happens and she takes the time to reevaluate her life. (Of course, I’d love it more if they just filmed “Two Masters” but since I’m not that lucky I’ll hope for what I might be able to get one day.)
I’ve love it if the next time she has to wear a court suit she comes in wearing a Vivienne Westwood suit that she picked up on a shopping spree with Tony. Something stunning, that’s still very Abby but professional and garners her a lot of appreciative looks and double takes.
