Honestly, I found this episode very underwhelming. And I loathed the fact Ziva gave Tony a headslap. Although his response showed it wasn’t welcome, her unrepetant “I will do it again” made me want to slap her – I wish she’d be killed off, sooner rather than later because really she just ruins the entire show for me.
Gibbs is Tony’s boss – the headslap is their schtick. It’s been working well lately – not over-used and not used on everyone. Ziva headslapping Tony and to all intents and purposes getting away with it is a very unwelcome new development. If we see it again I think I’ll have to bail. Her smug response and her assumption she can headslap an agent senior to herself really bugs me. Although it is indicative of her smug arrogance generally – will we EVER see her get taken down a peg or two? It’s looking more and more unlikely.
I found the episode utterly blah even apart from that. I was so bored during it. I am not entirely sure what we’re supposed to take from it re Gibbs. I hope those flashbacks are actually going somewhere. I found the perky red haired chaplain fairly annoying too – and was surprised Gibbs was so patient with her, although I suppose we have his being-a-father complex to blame for that. Talking of which, that of and by itself is irritating me, especially the way we’re being hit over the head with it this year.
Tony’s bucket list was an interesting insight into his character – not least the fact he views Gibbs as one of the wonders of the world that he’s already experienced, but that wasn’t enough to save a very dreary and mediocre and TALKY episode for me.
I really am wearying of NCIS and feel that I’m nearing the time when I’ll have to give up on it altogether. If I’m honest I’ve never got over the end of S6. I loathe Ziva; she ruins every single episode for me, and I hate the way they play the Tiva, particularly because it seems to mainly consist of Ziva putting Tony down, and after her violence towards him in S6 I long for him to one day just turn around and give her the slap or verbal tongue lashing she deserves. But the show refuses to address those issues, so they just continue to fester.
I am also beyond irritated by the fact the show has been so obsessed with Tony’s flaws and shortcomings but has consistently refused to address Ziva’s, which I see as far more grievous. I’m tired of them treating Ziva like some special superwoman with a special kind of tragic pain, and never calling her on her anger issues, violence, and unpleasant sniping superiority complex around Tony.
The show has improved under Gary Glasberg’s reign but frankly, not enough, and all my goodwill was worn out a very long time ago. -

I agree with pretty much everything you said about this episode. Blah describes it very well. As for Ziva headslapping Tony, I really thought for a moment that he was going to make it very clear to her that she wasn’t allowed to do that…then nothing.
Anyway, the one really bright spot in the episode was the bucket list. I absolutely loved it when Tony mentioned he needed to mark off “Naked on a Ferris Wheel” and instead of a headslap Gibbs tosses him a black marker. It made me think maybe Gibbs is helping Tony finish his bucket list. LOL! -

It was cute when Tony’s instict to flirt with a pretty girl ran headlong into his uncertainty about whether flirting with a chaplain is ok.
