Firstly, it’s been my pleasure to be featured on Diverse Reader’s Author Spotlight today. Pop over and take a look and enter the prize draw to win a free signed paperback copy of Ricochet!
Secondly, I’ve sent book one of Slavecatcher to various editors. I’ve done a huge amount of work on it to get it ready, which is partly why I’ve been so quiet. When I started this story I had no idea it would turn into a trilogy, so I didn’t write book one with an ending to the book in mind – I just wrote the story that was in my head. So, when I realized it had to be a trilogy, I had to do a lot of work on book one’s pacing and ending, to ensure it worked both as a book on its own and part of the over-riding narrative. I hope that’s worked.
I also found, as I did with Ricochet, that the more I wrote the better I came to understand my characters and their world, so I had to refine some aspects of plotting and characterisation accordingly. I know book one will still need more work, but I’m happy with how it’s turning out. For the first time, I’m using a paid, professional editor, as well as the fantastic troupe of volunteers who have been such a massive help to me in the past.
I’m going to let book one settle for a bit, and then turn my attention to editing book two. Of course, I haven’t written book three yet, but I will feel happier about its direction when I’m very clear on how one and two work as part of the big whole, leading into the drama and resolution of book three. That’s the plan anyway!
I know it must seem that I haven’t produced anything in a long time, and I wish I could be writing and posting stories for you to read, but my day job has been incredibly stressful for the past two and a half years, precisely during the time period I’ve been writing Slavecatcher, so I feel I’m doing well to have completed two books in the trilogy, even if there is a way to go. I can’t wait to share it with you as it’s one of the best things I’ve written, but I want to make it as good as it can possibly be before publishing it, so I hope you’ll bear with me.
I’ve written a marketing plan for when I release the books, because I want to share lots of extra goodies with you along the way, so that it will be exciting when you can finally get to read them. I have some fun things in store, I promise!
And finally, I have 494 followers on Tumblr – anyone want to help make it 500?! LOL!
